Memorabilia Lane: New Kids on the Block Trading Cards

Today's memorabilia item is Series One of the New Kids On The Block Trading Cards. I apparently didn't have the second series. I found these neatly stacked, in numerical order, in the back of the closet from my junior high days. The set consists of 88 cards that feature a photo on the front and a piece of New Kids trivia on the back. There are additional cards that have stickers on the front and a puzzle piece on the back. I seem to have misplaced some of the puzzle/sticker cards... I was 13 - I guess I was into stickers? Individual cards appear to be going for $1 each on Ebay. That's nuts!

Some of the New Kids trivia items are hilarious, yet ingeniously written for their target demographic at the time (in my eyes, 8-14 year old girls, i.e. ME). For example:

#29 - Danny Wood - Danny is turned on by kind and caring people and definitely turned off by pushy know-it alls! [in that case, we probably wouldn't get along too well...]

#43 - Donnie Wahlberg - Donnie's most prized possessions are his brain and his family [can you really consider an organ to be a possession? it's still cute though]

#80 - Home Cooking! - Donnie Wahlberg and Joe McIntyre have a lot in common... like food! Donnie always loves home cooking and Joe says his favorite meal is "Mama's meatloaf!" [my mom makes pretty good meatloaf too]

#46 - Joe McIntyre - Joe is definitely one of the guys! He lists his hobby as "chillin' with the fellas!" [reminds me of the scene in Clueless where they're all rollin' with the homies]

#10 - Looks Aren't Everything - Jordan, Joe, Donnie and Danny weren't sure about Joe as the fifth New Kid when they first met him but, as Donnie explains, everything worked out: "He looked kind of square, but he fits in good now. We love him, we accept him, he's cool." [square is hot]

#20 - Answer to Superquiz Question #9: Youngest New Kid on the Block Joe McIntyre loves to drink soda water with lime. [me too... but please add vodka]

#66 - Love and Snacks! - Jonathan may be the shy New Kid on the Block but he says, "I'm looking for a girl I can really talk to." Maybe they can share some chocolate cupcakes and milk, Jonathan's favorite snack. [this one makes me laugh-out-loud]

#84 - Dancin' - New Kids On The Block love to spend hours rehearsing the latest dance steps so they'll look tough on stage! [do you think this is still true?]

#85 - The Right Fans! - New Kids On The Block say, "Please Don't Go Girl" because they love all of their loyal fans who made them what they are today. [awwww...]

#6 - Joe McIntyre - Joe's biggest turn-on is "being home in my car with a special girl." This New Kid's biggest turn off: "Being told you have a day off and then not having one." [this one is just too precious]

*apologies for the non-numerical order of the cards. I found them neatly stacked, in numerical order... I just dumped them on the floor about ten minutes ago. gah.
